Title: Compatible kickstand for Radwagon?
Post by: Hbomb on April 25, 2020, 10:51:34 AM
Hi everyone! The kickstand on the radwagon just isn't stable enough to feel safe loading two kids or cargo. I've been doing some research online, do you guys thing that the StandTogether kickstand on the Yuba bikes would work as a replacement? It's the only on that looks like it would work with the springs. Here's a link...

I'd imagine that it wouldn't work just given it's a custom part. This is quite expensive but you could see if this company plans to build a kickstand for the RadWagon: http://www.rollingjackass.com/index.html (http://www.rollingjackass.com/index.html)

Rad Power Bikes does not recommend loading any cargo with the kickstand down.

Yes I know, I'm more talking about the safety of my kiddos when loading them, or rounding the bike from one side to the other. I'm not confident in the kickstand that comes with the Rad.

Thanks for the link, yikes on the prices though! I'm gonna talk to my velofix guy who has put together hundreds of Rad bikes. Maybe he has an idea.

Good idea, let us know if you find something that works.

I just got a used 2018 RadWagon with a missing kickstand and the mounting bracket was ripped off.  The RadWagon stand is $25 plus shipping and tax, which seems reasonable.  I need to find a welder to fabricate a mount, but now I'm wondering.. why is the stock kickstand bad?

It bounces around a bit over bumps, but I wouldn't call it bad. I think $25 isn't a bad price given that no one has found a better third party solution.

I agree to the first post, the stand can be a bit noicey.
I have screwed some rubber "plate" on the stand a d now it's quit.
But i think the stand should be a bit wider, bike is not stable when kids climb the bike with stand down.
I also think the stand should be a tiny bit higher or maybe a bit larger "feet"
The feets digs down in the ground if not solid and hard ground, making the bike unstable too.

I got some plans to modify my stand.

the yuba kickstand mounts with 2 bolts and the rad mounts with 1 bolt so i doubt it would work

I hop she's not still waiting for an option to the original stand

I tried this and can confirm that the Yuba StandTogether absolutely works on a RadWagon 4, and is WAY better (more sturdy, stable, and easier to get on/off of) than the stock Rad kickstand. It comes with a hole in the middle that lines up perfectly with the kickstand mounting hole on the RadWagon frame.

It worked fine with just one bolt, but I went ahead and drilled two additional holes and mounted it with three bolts since my original kickstand broke off while I was riding and I have PTSD / require over-engineering now. Also I load the RadWagon up with a ton of children and things; if you also do that you might want some extra bolts too.

You will need bolts that are longer than the ones that came with the StandTogether. For the middle bolt, you'll want a 2" one with lock nuts and washers on both sides. If you're adding the other two, they screw into nuts that are welded onto the StandTogether, so you can go a little shorter like 1-3/4".

I just took the ones that came with the StandTogether to the hardware store and asked for the same diameter and threading but longer.
