Title: Eu version rad runner 2 throttle only at 3mph
Post by: Swswswmo on May 27, 2024, 08:10:14 AM
Hi I've recently bought a rad runner 2 second hand and the throttle when turned to full will barely move the bike no matter the assist level ?

Is this normal?

Can I modify it in any way to have max power from the throttle?

Or is something broken ?

Thanks

Jack

Have you tried checking the brakes and motor cutoff switches?

Where can I find these settings? That's something I would be interested in.
The only settings I see was the UI Remote for changing the clock/odometer, km/mi, energy consumption etc. that's it. Very minimal.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that I have read a few topics about unlocking the 500W limitations. Maybe that's the settings your are referring to.

I was referring to the User Manual. Is there a separate user guide?

You are right.  I had forgotten the original screen didn't allow one to make many changes.  I had upgraded my controller which boosted my performance and allowed me to make individual settings.

Odd you don't have much throttle.  It may be wiring or it may be a bad controller.

Area13 has an upgraded controller and color screen that will boost your performance.

My bad, you may have mistaken me to the original poster. I do not have an RR2. I ride a City5+ ST.

My question was in general. I'm still new at this and still fumbling my way around the features of the bike. Sorry for the misunderstanding

no problem.  there are upgraded controllers and screens for your bike.  the upgraded ones allow you to set more features and give you more power and some extra speed.

sometimes Area13 has them in stock.  otherwise i think eletroworld has them.

good luck and enjoy.

When the throttle or your Eu version rad runner 2 cuts out at 3mph this is correct.
In the EU, ebikes are classified either as Pedelecs or Speed Pedelecs. The throttle on Pedelecs and Speed Pedelecs is limited to 6km/h or approx 3-4mph. This is law in almost every EU country. Your are only allowed to use the throttle to help you get going but it needs to cut out at 6 km/h or 4mph. Above 4mph you have pedal assist only. On pedelecs the motor will cut out at 25km/h or about 15mph. On speed pedelecs the motor will cut out at 45km/h or about 28mph. Speed Pedelecs require a drivers license for light motor cycles, insurance and license plates. They are treated as light motor cycles or mopeds. And in some countries the S-Pedelecs are not allowed to use bike lanes or bike paths and need to share the road with cars.

Technically you might be able to modify your bike to run faster than 3-4mph by using the throttle but this is illegal in the EU. The fines are hefty and the police will probably confiscate the bike. Many EU police forces do now have mobile dyno test stations.

I wouldn't be surprised if the EU throttle speed makes use of the "walk mode" circuit.

Nitpick: That "motor will cut out" wording is misleading. The motor is still operating when you go faster than 25 kph, but you have to contribute muscle power to exceed it.

If you watch the wattmeter, it does not suddenly drop from 250 (or 500 in North America) to 0 Watts when you go faster than 25 kph (32 in N.A.). It is still consuming 250 W (500 W), while your muscle power (or gravity, if coasting down a hill) pushes it past the speed limit.
