Title: RadRhino 6 - Battery won't charge
Post by: droberts83 on June 13, 2024, 02:38:53 AM
Hi,

My wife has a RadRhino, the step-through version, that she absolutely loves. I went to charge the battery today as it was down to 2 bars on the test button. So I removed it from the frame and plugged it in to the charger. The charger however only shows the green light, rather than turning red when the battery is plugged in to it.

If I run my finger over the top of the battery, I get a very slight "fuzzing" sensation, I'm not sure how better to describe it. I've had it from metal-cased laptops before when they're plugged in and charging. If I unplug the battery and do the same test, the sensation goes away. So it seems the charger is OK and it was certainly fine the last time I used it.

I note a post on here about fuse replacement on these semi-integrated batteries. Would that sound like the best way to go, to start looking at the two fuses inside the battery?

600 euros for a new battery is something I definitely want to avoid!

Thanks in advance.

yes sounds like the interior fuses are gone.  check youtube on how to access them and change them.

With an earlier version Rad 5 my battery wouldn't charge right after a ride so I would wait an hour or so to try and plug it in.  but in your case it seems as though that isn't the case.

Was it waiting for the battery to cool down before charging?

In my case yes it wouldn't charge until it cooled.  So I got in a habit of letting it cool before I would attempt to charge.  Rad said it was a bad fuse but it was just needing a cool down.
