Title: freewheel removal tool
Post by: alvinjohn on June 26, 2024, 08:31:52 AM
has anyone slit a slot on a freewheel removal tool so as to be able to slip over the power cable?
Any other options for removing the freewheel?

Area13 offers them for sale.  I think they make them in house so there may be a wait time.

I ordered one from Rad, that had a slot edmed in it. The peace that was edmed out was sent with it to be installed in the slot after wire was in place. That stopped the tool from collapsing when you put pressure on it with a wrench, when loosening the freewheel.  edm= electrical discharge cutting machine. cuts with electrically charged wire.

So glad the newer bikes have the power on the non drive side. Whoever decided to put it on the drive side originally was not a mechanic but a pencil pusher.  :)
