Title: Need alternative for RadCity 5+ NUTT BRAKES
Post by: DR-Montreal on September 09, 2024, 09:35:07 AM
Once again these awful brakes have failed and Rad only seems to offer more Nutt brakes to repair the bike. Apparently Tektro brakes will not work on the RadCity 5+. Any ideas? I am heartily fed up with Nutt brakes!
Thanks in advance.

At the risk of sounding clueless, what seemed to be the problem with your brakes? Or for that matter Nut brakes.

I happen to own an RC5+ as well.

I got the bike 2 years ago and the brakes have had continuous problems, hydraulic leaks, 3 times into a bike shop. It's in the shop now and if I accept another pair of Nutt brakes it will be set #3. Granted, I've put 6.6k kms on the bike, but I have zero confidence in this brand. I also note that Rad has switched to Tektro--they don't put Nutt on their bikes anymore.

Also, at one point I ordered pricy Madura brakes from Spain only to find out the RadCity5 have a reversed polarity for the electric plug off the brake lever assembly. The mechanic and electrical specialist had never seen that on an ebike before. I had to send the brakes back. Rad informs me Tektro brakes, which I now wanted, will not work on the RC5, only Nutt. I can guess why.

Other than that the RC5 has been a super bike in every way. The Nutt brakes are the fly in the ointment.

I had the same issues with the Nutt Brakes, I switched to Zoom HB876E 2-PIN/3-PIN 4-Piston brakes. I purchased the set on Amazon for a little over $100 and that included new 180mm Rotors, I've had great luck with these and were simple to install, Pay attention to the brake line length, 2 lengths are available and the longer size fits the RadCity 5

Hope this helps
