RadRover / Radrover Dead
June 08, 2024, 01:42:42 PM
I have a Radrover 5 that will not power up. The battery is charged with all 3 bars. I checked the battery with a volt meter and there is 54 volts. I checked all the plugs and they all look good and tight. Is there a way to trouble shoot to find out if it's the Display, Controller or Wire harness?

Thanks

I'm going to try the Rexing A1 action camera. it's not the best out there but it's on sale for $119 down from $199. It has a front facing and rear facing camera.

I haven't tried it. I'm on the hunt for something different. I currently have the GoPro Max. I do a 25 minute ride and the battery is down 50%. The GoPro Max does not have drive mode. Some of the action cameras I have been looking at have drive mode so it works like a dash cam. Set it to record 3 minute files and to overwrite the oldest when MicroSD card get's full. 360 camera's are so expensive.

everybody has their own experiences.

I paid $1,999 for mine 12 months ago, and rode 2,500 miles in those 12 months.

In 21 months I rode my Radrunner 2800 miles. It worked better than new when I snapped up a Radmission for $500. One reason was reliability. With its oddball wheels, frame, and handlebars, the Radrunner could be grounded for weeks in the event of a breakdown. The Radmission could in general be fixed with readily available parts. Meanwhile, I could ride the Radrunner.

Mine must of been built on a Friday  :( :( :(

I got less than 2 years and 1,000 miles on mine when it started having problems. That's not worth the $1,400 I paid for the bike.

I have a RadRover 5 I bought Sept of 2020. About 5 months past the warranty was up at 750 miles I got an error code and the bike was dead. I unplugged the brake light and the bike has been fine ever since. When this happened I checked RAD's site and I seen no parts for the Rover 5 so I emailed them several times. All I got was vague answers from them. They would not tell me if they had a brake light and controller still for sale or not. I gave up and have been riding the bike without the brake light. After looking around at all the different brand of E-bikes. They all pretty much have the same bike issues and customer service complaints. Just some more than others. After all my looking the one I ended up liking was $2,400. That is a lot for an E-bike that the industry has common electrical issues. I also want to be able to ride in the rain when needed. I have decided to drop electric and go gas and get a scooter. It's twice the cost but way less issues and I can ride in the rain.

Other than the brake light issue the bike looks really good. No problems with the battery. I haven't noticed any drop in range.

I have no idea what a fare asking price would be for my Rover 5. The only thing that sucks is the issue with the brake light not knowing for sure what is wrong but I guess in the long run it doesn't matter since RAD will not sell or does not have the parts.

What do you all think is a fare asking price?

Thanks
Jim

Be careful using cheap batteries. I have seen on the news of a lot of ebike batteries catching fire for no reason. It seems to be those cheap batteries from China.
Where do you think Rad batteries are sourced?

Like I said, the cheap ones from China. There are good ones from China and I'm sure that's the ones RAD uses.

What about this one from Harbor Freight?

https://www.harborfreight.com/6-in-led-spot-light-57189.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12144968772&campaignid=12144968772&utm_content=117441035752&adsetid=117441035752&product=57189&store=241&gclid=Cj0KCQjwnvOaBhDTARIsAJf8eVNG3JGW6dWnBUiLJ7z4dxZbMVUAY4xM8giwMHW-mq9RTDwmdBYDaFkaAmZZEALw_wcB

Specs say it's a 12W unit, if it's running on 12V, that would mean it's drawing 1A.  Is the headlight circuit on the controller capable of supplying a continuous 1A? What's the voltage of the headlight circuit?  If it's more than 12V can this unit handle more than 12V?  If not, it will quickly burn out.

I wouldn't hook the light to the bike light connector. I would have a power source for the light. I have tried a few lights on the front light connector it it does not work that well if at all. You will also lose range by doing that.

RadRover / Re: Kinda sorry I bought a RR6+

I don't think it matters to much what brand you go with. I was looking to sell my RadRover 5 and go with another brand. I looked and looked and narrowed it down to a few. I went to their forums and all of them were like RAD to one degree, more or less. They all had similar complaints with the bikes and customer service. I'm going to keep my RadRover 5 till it's dead and probably not buy another ebike. The quality is not there on any of them. When I break down I have to walk home. I have no way to transport my ebike. I use my Rover as a daily ride to work 5 miles one way. I will take the car on rainy days.

I emailed RAD twice and asked if they still had a controller and rear brake light for my RadRover 5 and both times I got a reply weeks later and the email was vague and didn't answer my question as if they had the parts. I will never buy another RAD. I am still able to ride it. I just leave the brake light disconnected so I don't get the error.

General Chat / Re: Do not use Tannus Armour on e-bikes
October 22, 2022, 11:42:06 AM
Tannus Armour is not worth the money. Mine lasted about a year and a half. Who knows how long they were flat but hey were flat as a pancake. The disclaimer was buried on their website that you have to deflate your tires so the liners retain their shape. You should not have to do that. Bad design. Sorry but I am not going to deflate my tires every day or week. Another selling point that you can ride slow on a flat but that does not apply to fat tire bikes.

Got through to customer service and they are having me go through the Error 30 troubleshooting

Did you figure out the problem with your bike?

I prefer panniers. I have the same rear rack on my Rover 5 and my Trek bike. I can switch the panniers from bike to the other in less than a minute. I also have the trunk bag.
