Oh yea, it happened to me this week.  My RW4 is missing. I got a ping from my Tile Button, not another one.  I have Velosurance with FULL Coverage.  These (put your own descriptive here) went into a secure room (with a keypad) and cut a padlock.  It is staying in my apartment from now on.  Once I get it back, or a new one.

I posted it on bikeindex.org, electricbikereview.com/forums/, here.  I also reported it stolen to Rad, they keep an index too. If you have any other sites, please let me know!

I had my local PD come out. I know of only 1 other ORANGE RPW4 in my city of ~80k.  This happened at 2030 1st Ave, NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.  Please pass the word, if you know anyone in CR.  It is decked out with every ORANGE accessory Rad has.  Peddles, Grips, Saddlebags, the large platform on the back, large basket on the front.

TY for listening!   JLH

I used to ride a '67 Honda CB77, aka 305cc, with a 4speed. The guy I bought it from said he had it bored and it's close to a 350.  My brother had a CL350 a 5 speed, another friend had the CB400, it is a classic like my CB77. Nothing is like my dad's 1937 Indian Scout!  A 3 leaf front spring with a 2/4 rubber block if you bottom out the springs.  On the backside, there is a shock in the seat post. Besides the 3 speed hand shift, with a 2-way clutch peddle.  I did have a 2cyl Yamaha 400 for a while.  It turned into a money pit.  I sold it.

I helped my kids build a 49cc 2 cycle engine on one of my own bikes.  In Iowa, 49cc is not obliged to have a license, an addon on your license, insurance etc.  One day a county Sherrif did stop my youngest son.  He instantly told the deputy it was a 49cc engine.  He was impressed my 13 yr old kid knew his stuff.  Then they looked it over and the deputy was very impressed.  It was not a screamer, but the boys had fun getting around town.

My RW4 is my "truck of choice" right now. I've added 1 extra battery, and think I'll and a second (aka 3 batteries) with the DATEx3 it should be sweet, with a range close to 100 miles. I'm looking into the "solar trailer" guys have built

I use the one in the RPB Accessory list.  It works nice, looks nice. !

With my RW4 ORANGE, of course, I got the Orange grips from RPB.  To get the stock black ones off, I couldn't get H2O or ETOH under them.  So I just had to use a razor blade & just cut them off.  The orange ones are stock, one shorter than the other.  ETOH helped lube the new ones to slip on. They are comfy, I got the "RPB mittens" for cold weather driving.  They are nice!

I use the RPB front basket on my RW4, I also added a stainless dual water bottle holder in a sandwich, It is an RPB accessory on Amazon.  I know the standard screws weren't long enough.  I think they are M5's, I used 25-30mm length bolts.  It's a nice setup.

SKIP the RAD mirror.  It is only for the L side.  Find a nice L/R set on Amazon.  They fit, they stay tight, they don't fog!

General Chat / Re: Bike Lock

Well, I'm moving to the #2 metro in our state.  I have a 5x approach to security.  I have a 2020 RW4.  I've gotten all ABUS devices but one..."the monster chain", the pair of disk locks, the long reach U-lock, the long reach Bar Lock.  And finally the TILE beginner kit.  A card for my wallet, a dongle for both sets of keys, and a "tiny puck" that mounts nicely and is well hidden under the controller.  I also have Velocycle Insurance, at about 2x the replacement for my bike would be.  Since it has already gone up $800 in 12 months, for the base, plus all the accessories I have.  Those $15 PRC alarm locks don't look much more than the Blue Handle Channel Lock pliers would take 5 seconds to crush.  Not impressed.  I'm still looking in higher-end motorcycle circles.  Honda, BMW, BULE, Dukati.  Nothing for a "hog".... sorry.

My dad's '37 Indian Scout had the simplest of security devices.  Spark Advance, 3 spd transmission, and a separate oil tank. Besides the ultra-smooth riding 3 leaf front spring.  OMG

After close to 5,000 miles and however many charge cycles I'm starting to notice the range on my battery isn't quite what it used to be. Gotta assume that's normal—right?

With that, I like to push the range to the max and can't really settle for only 20-25 miles. So it's either replacing it—or upgrading.

I'd add either the DATEx2 for 2 batteries or the DATEx3 for 3 batteries.  I got my 2nd battery from "big game bikes dot com" they also have the datex 2 & 3 models.  Gareth is a very nice person to work with, will supply you with all the patch cables you need.  He's a nice person to work with.

What's the most straightforward way to upgrade the battery setup to get more range. Speed/acceleration/etc. really isn't much of a priority, I just want to take the ~30 mile range (mostly 3 assist) with a stock battery to at least 50+. Is there a single battery setup that can do this? What's the move here, with increased range as the primary objective?

Thanks all.

Hey Rad riders!  I'm planning to add a second battery with a datex2 and was wondering where folks have added a second battery on the Rad Runner?   Some options I'm toying with are under the passenger seat (ideal)  or on the front downtube, which would bum me out as I love the step-thru convenience of my RadRunner+.   Bonus points for pics of your second battery!

Thanks and stay Rad!

I got my 2nd 48v battery from Big Game Bikes, they also offer the datex2 or datex3 device.  for 2 or 3 batteries.  They have all the cables  you'll need.  Gareth is a very nice person to work with.

I got the 48v battery from "Big Game Bikes dot com" It mounted nicely on the bottom bottle nuts.  I just added a piece of closed foam on the top.  I haven't gotten the battery/balancer tool they offer yet.  I'm going to add a 3rd BGB battery, on the back of my large platform.  It should fit just right, across the bracket.

Yes, I did, a nice metric set from Amazon.  Along with a chain break, extra slip links, some rounded end hex wrenches.  A Pro Bike Tool set also.

Does anyone know where to find a chain guard for the RadWagon 4? Or how to make it?
3D print one, probably in a couple pieces.  Go to a local body shop, see what they might do.  I've had my RW4 for about 1 year.  Never seen a need.
Do make sure your chain goes THROUGH the kick stand.

General Chat / It's not broken, I AM!
January 17, 2022, 06:50:36 PM
Hi, Joel here;
I live in beautiful "tundric" East Central Iowa, between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.
On 1/29/2021 we'd not had any snow stay, but the ground was frozen hard.

I was taking a 9 mile round trip to/from the Medical Clinic in town (that's the funny part).  It was 34f and a little of a West wind.  I went from West to East, home was East to West, not really that cold. I dressed warmly, I looked at my high-top winter boots & thought "naaaa" it's not that nasty.  I already had on my KEY pin stripe bibs and 2x socks.

Oh hell no, on my way home, there is a place where our trail transitions to a street (going R and uphill) ...DAMN if there wasn't a hole there.  Tipped over & "my R foot wasn't right".  I was on my Orange RW4, with an Orange Jacket & Helmet.

This spot is directly in front of the Fire District main station. In the driveway.  I had my phone at easy reach, I had to keep reconfirming the dispatcher, THEY WILL SEE ME! The EMTs pick up their kit at the station.  A neighbor drove by in 1 minute "hi John",  He stayed & took my bike home. In 2 minutes the EMTs were there, 3 minutes the Deputy was there, and 10 minutes the truck was there.

I'd dislocated and broken my ankle.  The relocation event was quite happy and fun, wheeeeeeee.
A week later they did the break repair thing. I haven't seen the photos of before of after.  I have my 1st checkup with the Orthopod next Monday.

But, I know I have to wait, but how long typically.  My RW4 is my wheeled transportation.  I am moving to town from out in the country.  (the town is Ceder Rapids, IA ~80K) (the country is South Amana, IA ~40 total)  A scary big jump!   LOL.

I have to look for 1st floor no ramp locations I know.  A garage would be nice (here in Tundric Iowa, our season is typically from November to mid-April) Please come visit!  Anything else to look for?   Just wondering.  TYVM   JLH  I'm ok, I'll get back to my RW4, Is there a transition Tri-E-Bike anyone thinks of ?

I mentioned HexLox in a previous post.  This is the locking nut security I've looked into.  Haven't pulled the trigger yet.  IDK why?   LOL

General Chat / Re: IS IT A 750 WATT MOTOR OR NOT???
September 30, 2021, 05:22:07 PM
To further cloud the issue, I recently saw a simple add-on "mid-drive motor" that uses the crank housing as the mount point.  Wouldn't that be a beast?  Why not also add a front motor too?

I've also seen YT's of folks using a Bafang internal motor, placed into the direct drive, and a planetary gear motor.  The replacement being MUCH BEEFIER!
RPB is very lax in giving out specifics on specifications.

I've talked to the HexLox guys, they can't get specifics on the RPB bolts.  I'd have to measure every bolt diameter, to get a full set of locks.  That's just a simple reciprocal agreement to give each other better service.  Just call & say "I have an RW4", they could offer you a complete set.  WHY NOT?
