so, I put an AirTag on my rad bike and on my camper. my camper was stolen out of my yard last night. It had a wheel lock, but the thieves just dragged it away anyway. I didn't get any pings right away, but about 3 hours later I got a location update. It was in a transient camp not far from my house. I don't have a new enough iPhone to triangulate it, but I was able to see it under some tarps in the camp, because it has a unique shape (it's home made). I called the police and they came and escorted me so I could recover it. I would not have been able to get it back without the AirTag.

Because the voltage is the same, we can assume there are the same number of cells in series (voltage adds in series). We can assume extra row of cells is in parallel (current adds in parallel). This increases total available current and lower the current required from each individual cell from the overall current required to power the motor. electrically, it seems like it would be fine.

The only issue might be...if the batteries are self limiting (something built in) and the radMission relies on the battery to limit the amount of current sent to the motor. This seems unlikely though.

So, not on a rad bike, but I was talking to my neighbor yesterday and he had a similar thing happen with his fender. For him, it seems like his tire picked up leaf debris and clogged the area between fender and tire, which caused the fender to do that accordion failure (picture above). His front wheel locked up and he went over his handle bars.

He basically told me that he'll never use plastic fenders again, and all fenders should have a break away.

yeah, it was all hypothesis on my part. Sometimes it seems like the mission assist is just on /off. Or like you said, not really estimating effort/torque.

Yeah, I feel like they won't level with you over email. I have a radMission and I asked if the current LCD upgrade would allow me to increase the speed limit to 25. I got the glomar response.

The battery has same voltage but less capacity. this means that there is probably the same number of cells in series (voltage adds in series), but less cells in parallel (amps add in parallel). This means that for a given current requirement, each individual cell will need to supply more current in the radMission battery than the radRover battery. The current demands for the radRover are more than the radMission. This is probably why they are telling you not to do it. The current demand from the radRover for each individual cell might shorten the overall life of the battery, or in an extreme case, cause a failure (overheat a cell?). In any case, you probably won't see the effects until later...

Really cool. Really interesting. Makes me wonder how gearing affects the cadence measurement.

so, if cadence is an estimate of rider effort, then having a larger front cog would cause the rad system to under estimate your effort, being on a smaller front cog would cause the rad system to over estimate your effort. is that true?

speed measurement comes from the drive wheel? It would be interesting to understand how the assist level is calculated...assist amps = alpha*(cadences/speed).

Yeah, I guess it was a silly thought. I upgraded to the LCD display and now it I'm pretty happy with it.

Yeah, How hot is too hot? I feel like I could smell some of that magic smoke leaking out.

Yeah, I put one on my rad mission and it works pretty well too. I left my bike in my office while I went out for lunch and my phone alerted me that my bike wasn't with me. I think it will be useful, even if it isn't a perfect bike tracker.

I went ahead and ordered the mission LCD upgrade.  Got it yesterday and installed it pretty quick.

The ability to increase speed was still accessible in the "secret" menu. Using assist level 3, I was able to get up to 22-23mph on a flat without that heavy feeling of when pedal assist drops out. I doubt I will really be trying to pedal faster than 20 mph though. I think it will mostly be nice that I can hover around 20 without dropping in and out of assist.

Besides that, Its really nice having the Speedometer. Seems like the watt meter will be interesting once I ride around on some hills...

So, I got one. It's bigger than I expected it to be from the pictures. I guess I should have looked at the measurements.

It fits long ways front to back, but I found I had to shift the seat forward to keep the back of my legs from bumping into it while I'm pedaling. I've got it set up ok now, but I'm not sure its really what I need. I might trade it out for the front rack.

those break away nuts... is that a feature of the replacement fender, or something you worked out? seems like a nice failsafe.

They are back in stock today.

The airtags are cheap enough that you might as well put one on there, just in case it works out.
