Hi John, So I've been wanting to see how my radexpand 5 could fit into my car (2018 Leaf).  I'm assuming with the seats down, the handle bars are folded down,  you are putting your bike on their side, right or rolling it in upright? Sound like a two person job to me?  I wonder if a ramp might help?

RadExpand / Re: RadExpand 5 Plus Review

Wow, what an upgrade.  I'm glad to see it.  Do you think that as I have a Radexpand 5 that I could buy from Rad (or someone else) a front suspension folk system that would fit my Radexpand 5?
I see with in days of your review Ryan, Rad jack up the price (just like they did with the original 5).

I live in Oregon and I had a friend who got her bike (not a Rad) stolen :( and her insurance agent said that it was a good thing she had only "pedal assist" bike and was covered, but that Ebikes that have throttles (which I think all Rads do,) are not covered and require "additional insurance"..

Is that true????

I just replace my seat post to the SR Suntour suspension seatpost and love it! I have a radexpand5 and no suspension forks because of the adjustable forward handlebar.  I know they make suspension stems for bike now, how anyone installed them on their rad ebike and found it worth the cost.  Some of my fingers can go numb on a longer more bumping Portland OR road!  Thanks!!

RadExpand / Re: Concern about Handlebar stem

Hi Liz, I've had my Radex5 for a year now and I've never had any problems with it. I'd take it to a bike shop just to make sure all nuts and bolts are tight. I'm a city rider and love it and I put some suggestions on this group feed on modification  I've had done,
I recommend the ABUS folding up lock and I'm actually looking into the new RAD frame installed lock for wide tires as added protection.
Good luck and happy riding.

I'm going to support getting a rad expand 5, but with modifications. I agree with JimPT that you need the beefy locks, but my expand 5 is great for my needs of city driving and commute. I think the other bikes in this class are even more cheaply made.
Here are the modifications: 1) I love gears and upgraded the derailleur and shifter. 2) the wider tires are enough of a cushion for me and street riding (I'm not using off roads). I don't fold it up and have never had any electrical problems 3) upgrade the odometer to Rad upgrade that keeps track of the miles as well as speed I travel.  4) Find it on one of Rads sales $1500 seems right for todays.

General Chat / Hollywood Rack sale....
February 10, 2023, 11:58:41 AM
So I look at this sales every time it comes around, however they only put the "sport" rack (for car) on sale rather than the other model Hollywood has called Destination E-bike Rack which has runners built in so you can roll you bike on to the rack inside of lifting one side then the other.  I want the Destination rack on sale not the Sport one, why not Rad??

Rad Modifications / Re: Throttle disconnect kit
January 06, 2023, 03:30:18 PM
I have  seen organized bike tours that are excluding class 2 (with throttle), it's not enough for me to disconnect it, I'd rather rent a class 1 for the tour than do that.  I love my throttle and it great for when I need just a little umph up a hill and I'm in the right gear and PAS.  Works like a charm!!

Do they ever put the Destination for Ebike version instead of the the Sports model?

Rad Modifications / Suntour SP12 NCX seat post
November 07, 2022, 09:37:42 AM
I've been looking for more of a "lay-back" for my seat in terms of 1-2" (otherwise rear basket is in the way).  My question is I'm short 5'1" and my seat is nearly fully down, if I switch out for the Suntour seat post  will I be able to keep it as "low" or does the suspension mechanism raise it up?  Also will it give me the "lay-back" that I'm looking for.  The cushioning part is a + but not mandatory.  I'm a lightweight! This is going on a RadExpalnd 5.  Thanks!

So my battery charges up very nicely, which I do after 35-40 miles on the charge on my Rad Expand 5. There are 2-3 bars left so it about 50% used.  However, I notice the charger gets really hot. I take the battery pack  off to charge it, since the bike lives in a shed when not ridden.  Thoughts?

RadExpand / changing out seat post on a rad expand 5
September 16, 2022, 09:21:19 AM
So I have the opposite problem that most rider have, I'm short (5'1") and I want to know first the diameter of the seat post to see if I can get a lay-back post where the seat is positioned back. ,  I can still reach the ground when stopped but  have a better pedal stroke for riding.  Because I have the rad basket on, I only have about an inch to work with but feel it will give me the distance for better knee expansion.

I added a small basket on the back (Rad's metal version) and found a pannier fits holding it from the bottom bracket to the top of the basket ....

RadExpand / Re: Expand 5 is perfect for olders
September 04, 2022, 04:58:18 PM
David, I feel the same way, I'm nearly 70 and this bike has put me back into to game.  I wanted a bike short enough that at stops I could still reach the ground without getting off the seat.  This model lets me do that with ease and still good pedal stroke.  I did upgrade the shifter (grip) and derailleur  and that made a difference and more shifting control for my Portland hills. I added a small basket which is great to hold all sorts of things.  I also added the LCD odometer.  Pedal with Power is a You Tube subscriber that I enjoy watching and he has several video on this model!!  Happy riding!!
