That looks real interesting, thanks.

Does anyone have pics or designs of a bike stand, probably wood, that will hold your bike while its upside down during tire changes and other maint? That actually worked out.

I have seen a couple comments in threads that folks were going to build something but nothing since.

Service & Repair / Re: Rad Rover Motor noise
April 15, 2021, 09:13:53 AM
I knew it wasn't the brakes due to no problem when I took battery off the bike and a long ride. Man, This bike will give you a workout when you ride with no battery help . So I got a video of the sound and sent to Rad. They think its the controller and are sending me a new one. I will update what happens with it. I attached the vid in case someone else gets the noise and vibration. I tried to attach the video but its too large even though its only 16 secs.. 8)

Service & Repair / Rad Rover Motor noise
March 21, 2021, 01:41:34 PM
I have had a couple incidents since I got my Rad Rover last summer when a strange noise when using the pedal assist. It only lasted a few seconds then stopped. But yesterday got the bikes out for 1st ride since November on a ride and near the end of a 12 mile ride,  I have started getting a funny rubbing/howling and mild vibration, if I accelerated to see if the noise stopped, on a regular basis when I use pedal assist. Hard to describe the noise. Remember what the old caliber brakes sounded like when they had something on the rims and when you applied the brakes it kinda howled?

Anyone had this issue? Only 90 miles on bike, dont think this should be happening? Is there some lubing I missed or something? :-\

RadRover / Re: Replacement tubes and liners suggestions
February 09, 2021, 09:58:41 AM
Forgot to add some stuff. When I pulled tires, I found multiple thorns in tires 8+ in each tire. But only 2 got thru on tires, so a little prop for tire toughness. Found a you tube video on using a small knife to get out the thorns when changing the tubes and it worked wonders on getting all of them out. Both my tubes were replaced and when I put liners in wife's bike, I found a small leak there so replaced her front tube also. Thank goodness I timed it right that Amazon actually had Mongoose 26X4 tubes.

BUT, the thorns were all in the flat areas between the knobs. That's the issue I think. There aren't enough knobs on the stock tires to keep them up off trails enough to protect from punctures. RAD should either put liners in them from factory or give an option for different tires for folks in areas with thorns and other off trail riding conditions. These tire are probably good for paved bike trails, but I have serious reservations for dirt trail use. Depending how things go with this upgrade on liners in spring, I may replace tires to more aggressive tires for more protection.

Service & Repair / Re: Mr Tuffy liners for fat tires

Got my replacement Mongoose tubes and Mr Tuffy 4XL liners. They all went in and fit fine. Took a short ride, and they seemed good. I think it was a good choice to get the larger size 4XL liners versus the 3XL. It seemed to cover a little more of the sidewalls. So we shall see. Weather sucks here so not much time to ride to evaluate them.

Whats the Kenda protection you mentioned?

Wow, no response so no one is using liners?? I ordered the 4XL size, local bike guys say it will fit. I will update as it goes.

Cant speak for other Fat tire makers but Rad doesn't come with puncture resistant tubes/tires. Appears most manufacturers, from my research, use the lightest, read thinnest tires to reduce weight. The tires that come standard on the Rovers really isn't any protection in southwestern trails of any type.
I've emailed various tube companies but got vague replies.

I'm ordering mongoose tubes because they are a little thicker along with Mr Tuffy 4XL liners. Got the larger ones to try and get a little more side protection.

To me the tannus armor is only a foam barrier and a smaller tube that makes the distance a thorn or nail have to penetrate be longer. That not protection thats distance/thickness which is what puncture resist tubes  and liners are for a much lower cost. Plus again the cost and I'm seeing comments from folks on various bike sites saying it causes more rolling resistant issues and they still get flats maybe less but they still get them.

I'm seeing more and more folks change out the tires to more knobby styles here for protection.  In my opinion the spacing on the Rover tires between knobs is too much and there isn't enough tread depth on the knobs. After trying the Mongoose and tuffy combo. I may go that way also.

In Colorado we have more thorn resistant tubes on shelves than normal tubes for a very good reason, goat head thorns.

RadRover / What Replacement tires for Rovers
January 11, 2021, 12:08:00 PM
What replacements tires are you running on your Rad Rover. The factory ones leave a lot to be desired as to protecting you from punctures and tread in general. I'm looking for something that works on and off road. The street tires that Ryan has on his list, I don't think will work for me in Colorado. Will probably need more knobs to protect from thorns.

Does anyone have any idea why there isnt any manufacturers making puncture resistant tubes for fat tire bikes. Its strange considering they are the" IN Thing".

Have a RAD Rover 5. Have problems with flats and since there are no puncture resistant tubes for some reason, I'm looking at liners.

I see the 26X4 size that matches the Rover but would the larger 4.1-5 size work better and fit fine without trimming so you could get more sidewall protection?

Ryan, we could really use some help and a review on if larger liners work or if the normal size works. Also any idea why no thorn resistant tubes for Fat bikes even thought they are the current thing?

What experiences have you had with slime and other sealants. I tried them once but had issues with the sealants plugging up Tire pressure gauges?

RadRover / Replacement tubes and liners suggestions
January 07, 2021, 11:47:38 AM
 >:(Found out the Rad Rovers tires appear to be useless for western dirt roads/trails. Got ours in late summer rode them 6 times on a urban bike trail and no issues. The first time we went off trail, we got flats. Just a flat dirt road/forest service road/trail, not any MT bike rough trails. Appears the original tire tread ( minimal tread depth) is only Seattle bike trail worthy and offers no protection against pointed things. For us that's various types of thorns.. No liners inside and No thorn resistant tubes and try finding those now.

Asked local bike shop about puncture resistant tubes and was surprised to hear they don't make them for fat tire bikes? Does anyone know if someone does make the puncture resist. tires?.

Thinking I would get at least liners since no TR tubes. I was thinking about get a bigger size than the 4.0. maybe a 4.5-5 to protect further out on sides?  Has anyone had luck with a bigger size to protect the tubes sides better?
