Service & Repair / Weird noise - followed by loss...
Last post by stefaniew158 - February 18, 2025, 11:49:08 PM
Hi!

I'm having problems with my radwagon 4, and was hoping someone here would recognise the problem.

The motor of my radwagon 4 does not engage any more; not for PAS or throttle.

It started intermittently: when I was cycling, there would suddenly be a strange 'rattling' sound from underneath, and the motor would shut down (while pedaling) while the battery was certainly not empty. The noise would stop at the same time the PAS stopped working, but I could keep pedaling afterwards without any issues or noise (except no PAS or throttle).

I have a video of the noise:
https://youtube.com/shorts/pBAv62Fr5tI
(at around 4 seconds in the video.... I stopped pedalling when I heard the noise)

Maybe important to note: the first few times this happened, if I heard the noise and stopped pedaling, the PAS wouldn't immediately stop working, but a few metres later I would eventually here the noise again and the PAS/throttle would stop working.

The noise first happened occasionally when I was riding the bike for a while, and eventually more and more. Now the motor no longer works at all.

I already disconnected all sensors for brakes, lights etc to exclude problems from that area.  If I do a rollback test I can feel the power engaging, but not when I move the bike forward...

Radwagon support have told me they don't know what's causing the noise, but have advised me in separate messages to replace the controller, motor and freewheel. I have the feeling they're just guessing...

So I'm hoping someone here might have experienced the same issue and can tell me what the fix for them was... (I've searched the forum but can't seem to find the same story).

Thanks in advance!

Service & Repair / Need replacement for the littl...

This is the small black rubber plug that you insert into the charging port after you disconnect your charger on a Radrunner Plus (I assume most/all Radpower bikes are the same).  Mine split in two.  Now if my e-bike is ever in the rain, the battery may short.

I just spent about twenty minutes looking for one of these on line but can't find one anywhere.

Any ideas?

How To Information / -
Last post by mumruicky - February 18, 2025, 05:41:24 AM
I see no shame in wanting to learn something even if it's how to change tires. I had a little difficulty learning too, although I think my not learning easily  had to do with me not wanting to get down and dirty.

As electric bikes like Rad Power Bikes gain popularity, are we witnessing the decline of traditional pedal-powered cycling, or is there a harmonious future where both coexist? How do Rad Power Bikes owners view the balance between technology and tradition in cycling?

Service & Repair / Noob, picked up a project bike...
Last post by Houston - February 17, 2025, 03:46:01 PM
No laughing! OK laughing's fine. After retiring my brother and I are getting power bikes. I've picked up a Radrunner Plus at a police auction, where my brother is looking at new. It has no battery and it the shifting cable is broken. A couple questions if I may.

First - How likely is it that the bike will run with a new battery? It looks in good shape but I've no clue what to look for.

Second - If I'm not throwing good money after bad what recommendations would you have for a great battery.

Third - It has a factory controller. Do they go bad? If so, is the Bolton upgrade the way to go?

Again, I'm painfully NOOB so any information will be greatly appreciated. But if trying to fix a project bike is a bad idea I'd rather buy new.

Respectfully

Service & Repair / Headlight turned off disables ...
Last post by Jay West - February 15, 2025, 10:05:32 AM
I have a Rad City 5 Plus that runs fine when I turn on the power but if I turn off the headlight the ebike will not operate (no power).   If I turn off the bike and restart the bike runs fine.  It doesn't function if I turn off the headlight.  Any ideas what the problem could be?

Quote from: crorris on February 12, 2025, 06:57:33 AMI've used this for a lot of stuff I've mounted to my handlebars.

That looks like a neat solution, thank you!

Quote from: John Rose on February 10, 2025, 01:22:37 PMI got the LCD Upgrade for my RadExpand 5, which did come with (I think) rubber spacers.

You could just cut up an old inner tube or some neoprene strips from a rubber boot or some such for DIY spacers. If from an inner tube it may require 1 1/2 wraps, maybe 2 to get good compression.

Or use many wraps of cloth-type hockey tape (aka "friction tape"). It's my new favourite secret weapon.

Also, maybe spiral cable wrap, like this stuff, in different colours and diameters:

I'm not absolutely sure if it would be thick enough.
It's also handy (no surprise) for tidying up wiring and brake cable bundles.

Thanks!
Yes, DIY looks like the ticket. The spacer would need to be 22mm->30mmm, more or less. I spoke (chat) with Rad support and bought the LCD mounting bracket hoping it would include the spacers, but it didn't.

RadRover / Radrover and Radcity Controlle...
Last post by iso900 - February 12, 2025, 10:37:03 PM
Hi

Does anyone know if the controllers for Radcity5 plus and Radrover are the same?

Since i have an issue with my Radrover the Front light blinking when turned on and the rear one does not turn on at all, works find with the breaks though. So i was thinking if the controller is the same then i could troubleshoot it to see if it actually is controller.
