Tailgate pads

I just received two Rad Rover 5's and am deciding how to haul them. Does anyone e use a tailgate pad for hauling their bikes ? I don't want to use a hitch mount due to pulling a camper. I have a full size Toyota Tundra with a bed toolbox mounted at the front of the bed. I would like to keep the tool box. The padmakes sense but I'm  concerned with the weight of the bikes on the tailgate and or damage to the bike.
