Using RAD eBike Battery for Solar Power Station

I thought it would be useful if we could use our RAD eBike battery for back-up power or for camping. I designed and 3D printed a battery adapter. I also verified that you can use an MPPT solar charge controller to charge the battery. You can charge it at 120W while using the output power. Now we just have to convince RAD Power to manufacture/sell something like this as an accessory 🙂

I like your way of thinking, I love finding ways to multitask items I own, this is a natural fit. Where I live in NewEngland my bike will be stored away each winter, November - March, 5 months. It would be great to use the RAD battery as a power Backup in case of an outage over the winter. In addition I'd like the ability to cycle the battery occasionally. RAD really should have included USB output on the battery case.

Please let us know if you find out why one of your batteries would not work with the inverter!

Just a thought: If you are interested in a little business venture, There are a few sellers on ETSY selling 3D printed covers for the RAD battery and battery mount terminals as well as thumb levers for the throttle. I'm guessing you could sell quite a few of the battery connector you fabricated.

Hi Nafis,
This is a really cool project. Thanks for sharing with us. I am interested in making something similar myself. Will help during our multi day camping trips when we look for ways to charge our electronics. Is it okay to download your 3D print files from the link you provided? If yes, would they work with any 3D printer or does it have to be Prusa? I am new to 3D printing and am looking to buy one. If you have any advice on that, would really appreciate that too.
