I like the mounting bracket but found that even a short Polar bottle hit the handlebars. A simple mod fixed that, and put the bottles at a handier angle.

I made the metal tabs out of sheet aluminum, but you may be able to find mending plates at your local hardware store that would work.  The holes on my tabs are 1" apart, so the smaller mending plates in this set would be near identical:
