RAD City 5 Plus killed the battery

Lesson learned...put on my glasses before mistakingly inserting the battery key into the charging port. I feel like an idiot. I am not going to dissect the battery to attempt a fuse replacement. Ordered a new battery. I watched the you tube link on changing a fuse however it was not for a Rad City 5 Plus and not a task I dare undertake. TAPE over  the charging port cover so you never make this costly mistake. Thank you RAD for free shipping on the new battery

you can send the battery in for a repair.
there is a place in Colorado and one in California.
cheaper than buying a new one and you don't have to do the repair yourself.

I am on the East Coast and I'm certain one of my electrician friends will repair it, don't mind having a spare battery  but I just feel so foolish  for this costly mistake   arrrgggg

They really should select a combination of charging port and key shape such that you cannot reach the centre pin in the charging port with the tip of the key. Maybe something as simple as grinding down the tip of the key somehow. Or a charging port that is not coaxial but has two side-by-side pins, isolated from each other. It would not matter if you touched the key to eithert single pin. It would also be visually very different from the key switch.

I just feel so foolish  for this costly mistake

I used to feel foolish falling down while skiing near the ski chair thinking everyone is watching me. Then I realized everyone falls down. It's the same with this human error. It is a common occurrence and it is in my opinion a design flaw.

I'm certain one of my electrician friends will repair it

Just a word of warning. There is a copper ribbon that supplies power to the battery level indicator. Apparently it is near the fuse. This is something your electrician friend should be aware of. Be careful not to cut through it. Anyways there's plenty of videos showing how to do it.

Everyone has different needs. For my own personal situations I haven't found the need for a second battery. My body gives up before I even used up 4 bars of charge. That translates to 50-65km of cycling.

It is all band-aid solutions.

I'd like to see a more convenient solution. Instead of a single use fuses I'd like to see a circuit breaker style of fuses if it is possible.

I wonder if this problem exists on the new safe-shield batteries.

I believe the new safe shield batteries have circuit breakers instead of fuses. Not 100% sure though. I also don't have any information on how to reset the circuit breakers but I have a VERY distant thought of buying one for my RW4 as Rad says they will fit.
